So,
The last part of last year was so turbulent I didn't know where to start writing about it all, so never got round to starting anything. My dear friend Gail died of leukaemia in October, and no-one who knew her (least of all herself), expected anything other than a miraculous recovery for her. But that didn't happen, and now she's gone. I've volunteered for the job of writing a memorial website, totallygail.com, and when I can face doing that, I will. Gail was the most extraordinary, warm, generous person - she was exactly how she looks in the photo. To create a microsite on totallygone would, of course, have been insensitive. Only yesterday my mother said, when I asked her what she thought of my new design concept, "'totallygone' - don't you think it's a little nihilistic?" Well, I guess it is, but hey - so what?
Since my last post, I've changed jobs and am working for another East End rotten borough, having had a brief foray into the world of advertising copywriting - writing ads for, among other things, paper trimmers. Working in PR for a local authority isn't glamorous, by any means, although I'm vaguely involved with London's Olympic bid, which is characterised by that dogged Henmanesque optimisim we Brits are famous for. I guess I've moved back to London now, although I've been staying with my mother in the expectation of taking off again. I'm terrified of turning into some old fag who lives with his mum, so I've got plans to move, but I don't know where, yet. Plans for returning to Thailand have, for obvious reasons, been shelved for a while, although it's tempting to just show up and try to be useful. Later, maybe.
On a brighter note - I've become, in my absence, a Person of the Year. That'll be me and George W. How kewl!
New Year came and went, bringing three resolutions. Quitting smokes and booze are two; updating TG the third. We'll see which gets jettisoned first...
pip pip!
