travel, at a tangent

Hurricane Ann

ritablog
This from my dear friend Ann in Texas, whose sense of adventure is boundless, and is one of few people I'd care to be stranded with on a desert island.
hi as youve probably seen on the news things are crazy here.the whole city has fallen into a semi-hysteria fuelled no doubt by the terrible images and horror of new orleans.most people have tried to leave meaning the roads are insane.one friend has taken 17 and a half hours to cover a distance which normally takes one half/two hours.petrol stations have ran out of gas and the shops have run out of water.its really surreal and hard not to get caught up in the hysteria.my retreat got cancelled but after 4 hours on the phone i managed to buy a plane ticket to s.f. for tomorrow morning.its all abit iffy whether the plane will leave and whether ill actually get on it but i have a plan b -my school has set up a building for use.hopefully though ill be in california by the time it hits.no-one really knows how bad its going to be as its unpredicatible what course it is going to take.hopefully the damge will be minimal. take care and keep your fingers crossed i get on that flight,
love annxx

[Editor's note: she really does write like that. Like a hurricane. Watch out, Rita.]
