Dear Sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

In this post also we are continuing the discussion of the "haridhaasulu" krithi
with link to srimadh raamaayaNam.

thathO raaja rshaya: sarvE sangathaa: paramarshaya: || 3-30-33 [part slOkam]
sabhaajya mudhithaa raamam sa agasthya: idham aBhruvan |
Ethath artham mahaathEjaa mahEndhra: paaka shaasana: || 3-30-34

thatha: sarvE raaja rshaya: = then all the royal sages
paramarshaya: sangathaa: = happily gathered
sa: bhaajya mudhithaa raamam = to the adoring and delighted raama
sa agasthya: idham aBhruvan = agasthya said like this
mahaathEjaa ethath artham = for this reason the great-resplendent one
mahEndhra: paaka saasana: = that mahEndhra, the controller of paaka demon

Meaning: Then all the royal sages led by agasthya gathered near raama and
adoring raama, delightedly said "for this reason only that great-resplendent
mahEndhra, the controller of paaka demon"
[continued in next slokam and that slokam is not given here but the meaning
alone given since that s not so relevant to the context of haridhaasulu]
[sage agasthya also came here to witness the victory of raama and said with
idea of these rishis indhra brought you to this place of sree saraBhanga with
the intention of killing these raakshaasaas and that is achieved today]

sva Dharmam pracharishyanthi dhaNDakEshu maharshaya: |
Ethasmin anantharE veerO lakshmaNa: saha seethayaa || 3-30-37

maharshaya: =  these great-sages;
dhaNDakEshu = in Dhandaka,
sva dharmam pracharishyanthi = will practice their own chores well
Ethasmin anantharE = while these talks were going on meanwhile
veera: lakshmaNa: saha seethayaa = brave, Lakshmana, with, Seetha.

Meaning: to raama these royal sages saying thus "Now, these great-sages will
practice their own chores in Dandaka forests", the sages performed their
thanksgiving. Meanwhile the brave Lakshmana came along with Seetha... [3-30-37]

Before we get into some thing more on raamaayaNam, we will see another krithi
of saint thyaagaraajaa.

raagam: kokila varaali taaLam: dEshaadi

pallavi
samukhaana nilva galgunaa kamala aananaa [samukhaana]

meaning: Is it possible for anyone to stand in front of You, Oh lotus-faced
raamaa?

anupallavi
kshaamagalgu bhoo thanaya lakshmaNa aadhi
mahaathmulakE gaani anyulaku [samukhaana]

meaning: Except for that goddess seethaa the daughter of Bhoomi dhEvi, and the
mahaathma lakshmaNa et al who has a lot of forgiveness?

charaNam
kamala aasanaadhi amara dhikpathulu
kalasa vaaridhilO jooda neraka
gumi goodi moralida kaaryamulu
konasaagenatha thyaagaraaja vinutha [samukhaana]

meaning: It is said that dhEvaas like Brahma and dhikpaalakaas [the guardians
of the directions] were not able to see You, oh lord raama, in the milky ocean,
(realize fully?).
They all joined there together and prayed to you and succeeded in discharging
their duties, Oh, raamaa who is being sung by thyaagaraaja!

Comment: see this krithi also comes into raamaayaNa context. While the rishis
adore raamaa, seethaa and lakshmaNa come to the place where these rishis are
assembled.

"Is it possible for any body else to stand in front of you" ST asks - this can
be taken in different contexts - few are:
1. the rishis are able to see that raamaa easily in their front in
raamaa's full glory - who is already claimed as saakshaath vishNu - just then
in the previous slokam [in SrMadh Va. Rama.] by the chaarNaas and dhEvaas who
assembled to see the fight of raamaa with khara et al.

2. Whereas the brahma and dhikpaalakaas are not able to see and realise
that lord and his capabilities as per ST.

3. Here, as raamaa, that supreme lord vishNu in milk ocean, just came and
helped these rishis to do their sva dharmam - any doubt in being called -
dhayaaLO - dharma vathsala.

4. Can any body stand really in front of raamaa - who destroyed whole army
including their chieftains- in arDhaaDhika jaamaa samayE - in just 1 ½ hours -
killed all the 14000 raakshaasaas single handedly - definitely not - that is
what ST says in this krithi.

5. Can any body else serve that raama except that seethaa and mahaathma
lakshmaNa - are these rishis can serve that raamaa - as per ST NO is the answer.

6. Is there any thing wrong if ST or these rishis start saying - "I am
filled with joy on seeing the hari dhaasaas come out onto the street in
procession, singing with grace and meter, the names such as hari, gOvindha,
nara hari, raama, krishna etc. [charaNam meaning of hari dhaasulu krithi]

7. I am filled with joy on seeing the hari dhaasaas come out onto the
street in procession, in joyous abandon that they have been ensnared by hari
into his service, by making them realise that he [or his name] is the only
salvation! [charaNam meaning of hari dhaasulu krithi]

Now let us go back to srimadh raamaayaNam.

giri dhurgaath vinishkramya samvivEsa aashramam sukhee |
thathO raama: thu vijayee poojyamaanO maharshiBhi: || 3-30-38
pravivEsha aasramam veerO lakshmaNEna aBhipoojitha: |

giri dhurgaath vinishkramya = lakshmana with seetha came out from the mountain
cave verily exited
aasramam sukhee samvivEsa = entered the hermitage happily
thatha: vijayee veera: raama: thu = then the brave and triumphant Rama
maharshiBhi: poojyamaana: = being worshipped by great-sages
lakshmaNEna aBhi poojitha: = and being worshipped by lakshmaNa
aashramam pravivesha = entered the hermitage.

Meaning: Verily coming out of the mountain cave, lakshmaNa with Seetha entered
the hermitage happily, and then that triumphant raama came towards hermitage
being worshipped by these great-sages. When raama, the brave one, entered the
hermitage, LakshmaNa was going towards him worshipfully.

tham dhrushtvaa sathru hanthaaram maharsheeNaam sukha aavaham || 3-30-39
baBhoova hrushtaa vaidhEhee Bharthaaram parishasvajE | part of slokam 40

sathru hanthaaram tham dhrushtvaa = on seeing that enemy eliminator raamaa
maharsheeNaam sukha aavaham = raama the rejoice provider for great-sages
[rejoicer.]
vaidhEhee hrushtaa baBhoova = seethaa became exultant
bharthaaram parishasvajE = vaidhEhee embraced her husband raamaa

meaning: On seeing Raama, that rejoice provider to these great-saints,
vaidhEhee became exultant and with extreme exultancy embraced her husband.

Notes:
1. Any wife on seeing her husband returning from a risky journey or after
finishing a valourous deed will embrace her husband delightfully, and nothing
special about it. But there is something special here.

2. The commentators of srimadh raamaayaNam attach great significance to
this situation.

3. See the description of vaalmeeki - First vaidhEhee hrushtaa
'exultant...' means not simply "more than happiness". Raama's single handed
victory is the cause for that.

4. sathi DharmiNi Dharmaa: 'nature will have its own peculiar properties.'
Raama's victory is the peculiar property to the sathi the DharmiNi, and the
exultancy caused is its nature Dharma.

5. hrushtaa- 'exulted' 'thrilling, hair-raising, electrifying' 'as though
the inner joy is going to burst out through the skin pores...' - Such is the
joy of Seetha.

6. The cause for the extreme exultancy is said next: vaidhEhee, the
daughter of vidhEha King, Janaka and when said so, it is to be remembered that
"mithilaa adhipathi: veera:" "Mithila's king is the bravest of the brave...'

7. So seethaa or vaidhEhee is aware what bravery and the resultant victory
is, and knowing that she hailed her victorious husband, since she is a worthy
princess.

8. Bharthaaram parishasvaje ' embraced the husband. Now comes the question
- 'Is raama the husband of Seetha alone or to the total Universe?

9. "lOka Bharthaaram sushuvEya". He is the husband of the total Universe.
When she is the mother of all beings in the universe, and when her husband
protects her progeny from the evil doers, will she not embrace that husband of
hers, as well as of the Universe?

10. The word "Bharthaa also mean 'one who bears'. Who is this raama- as
said saakshaath vishNu - he has nothing else to bear, except the whole universe
- in SVSN also we saw naamaas such as maheeDhara, maheeBharthaa DharaNeeDhara
etc.

11. This embracing is parishasvajE, pari + sha + svaje 'wholly embraced'.
She embraced him from all over and fomented his war-wounds with her warm
breasts.

12. Then, why for this much happy hugging, it is commented: maharsheeNaam
sukha aavaham parishasvajE - for he is 'one who brought comforts to
great-sages, him she embraced...'

13. The great-sages are her children, supplicating her to recommend to the
Supreme Being to bestow His grace for their salvation. Since Raama brought a
good amount of relief by his paternal affection to these children-like sages,
as mother she is happy and hugged him.

14. Seetha came out of a mountain cave and embraced Raama. This suggests
that the innate soul shEshi on the advise of a teacher, after leaving the
cave-like living being, is released from bondage and embraces the master
shEshin.

15. This is the same predicament for her in sundhara kaaNdam, where the
messenger / teacher Hanumaan advises her to come with him, but she refuses,
because her lord has to come to lanka, conquer and then take her, as he has
done now.

16. Here also she is put in cave and guarded by Lakshmana, unlike
demonesses in Lanka, from which she came out and joins her husband. [points
above are the commentary and allusion recorded by Govindharajaa] .

Some more points on this Bharthaaram parishasvajE and how it is linked to
haridhaasulu, we will continue in next post.
