Part Six: Advanced Concepts and Conclusion
It is out of the scope of this Web site to explain all aspects of
how the Internet works. Some important concepts that shape the
use of the Internet include:
- Firewalls - These are configurations on gateways and routers
than prevent service requests from entering a network. They are
designed to protect networks from intruders. More information can
be found at HowStuffWorks.Com
- IP Telephony - This new technology allows for the use of telephones
via TCP/IP. Since there are now long-distance or usage charges with
TCP/IP, this will dramatically lower the cost of telephones. For more
information on IP Telephony, see HowStuffWorks.Com.
There are thousands of other technologies associated with the Internet,
and a good place to find further information is the computer section of
your local bookstore or library.
To gain a solid knowledge of the Internet and it's technologies, one can
seek a Cisco CCNA Certification.
It is my hope that this information was useful to you. If you have any
questions, comments, or suggestions about this Web site (including spelling
and grammar), please send them to eric@chernoff.org.
