About the only way we can tell whether a given strainer works, with a given
amount of tea, ... and as much as it kills me to read it in other replies
... its to have a batch of tea tested before, then after straining, and then
calculate the differences in the numbers. Find out what gets filtered out
using a given filtering method. Then try others using the same experiment.
I hate beating this to death, but I really think we're all just spinning our
wheels here with unknowns, and under the masses of variables, until we get
some type of standardized tests going here. There are a lot of items to
test, and we'll just keep finding more. And really nothing is going to get
resolved, or better --gained, if we keep up this guess work and continue to
shuffle standardized tests under the carpet.
I'm just as guilty -all I'm doing is blowing my horn here really - no
action. But as a group, we need to start somewhere. How about for an easy
start, we find the best container design for brewing by using several
brewers of different sizes, shapes, on the same day, using the same
ingredients, etc - and then test. Thats an easy start. Then, find a good
recipe that works well in several different types of machines?
I'm just throwing junk into the air here in hopes of getting my point
across, or ... just blowing my horn. Maybe a better example, however, would
be this. What if we were to send samples in to SFI and we knew (not true,
but follow me here) that all they did was sniff one sample and predict what
the numbers were for you based on experienced guesses? We KNOW this is NOT
the way they do it, but we wouldn't have a whole lot of trust in this method
if they did, right? I would imagine that they would run tests under as
uniform an environment as possible, for each test, using similar methods -
to give apples-apples accurate results.
Your AACT customers (playgrounds, fruit clubs, golf courses, ball fields,
residental/commercial landscaping, etc) should expect nothing less than that
from the AACT businesses. So what, you test your teas after they are brewed
and get great results. At this time, we don't know really what happens
after we strain them through Q pantyhose, filter them through our sized
mesh, pump them through a given pump, spray them through a given nozzle,
pound them under given pressures. Shouldn't we know these results???
Shouldn't we be enhancing on the results???
I'm such a pain in the AACT, I know. =)

I dont know about the learning too much part due to
the inconsistencies of tea machines lately I think
that its good to start at the basics and work it all
out till everyone is up to speed with no confusion.
The paint strainers at Home Depot has been a great
filter for some people. The airless five gallon bucket
strainers for about a buck. Any other suggestions for
straining from anyone, then maybe we can move on to
