Re: [compost_tea] protozoans before and after brewing

Hello Javier
I didn't have the advantage of a microscope during early testing of the BobO. Just sent lots of tests to SFW labs. It is good to hear reports from users with Microscopes.
I can believe the protozoa might be higher early in the extraction part of the cycle. As you know bacteria multiply in the brew cycle but protozoa and fungi take longer.
Do you see anything of fungi in your scope? I suspect that fungi may follow the pattern you see of protozoa. If you want higher fungi and protozoa you may want to shorten the cycle. Your scope will help select a cycle that does what you want.

We have experimented with short cycles and found them useful. Don't know the optimum but Hope to have enough testing and with a scope to know what to suggest. Your help is very welcome. Bob

Hello all, specially Bob,
The past two weeks I have been sampling my tea with the microscope
after 6 hours of extraction, before pulling the extractor out and
let the bubbling for the rest of the 24 hours in my 50 gal
BobOLator. At the end of the process I sample again.
I have noticed the presence of MORE protozoans in the first sampling
than in the second one. The bacteria look good (not very high
numbers but lots of diversity) in the first sampling, and in the
second one the quantity maybe triples (easly hit >500 per filed) but
I am not so sure the diversity is the same.
Any comments, suggestions
