Re: [compost_tea] Adding Lime/Calcium to Soil

I was hoping to get some feedback from the group on a liquid calcium that I have been developing.

Elaine had urged me to come up with a way to add calcium to our fish hydrolysate and we completed that work and are about to roll out that product (Unfortuantely, we didn't get the work done before ACRES). In addition, I had my chemist work on creating a liquid calcium derived from clam shells.

The easiest way is to make the liquid calcium is by using HCL but that makes a Calcium Cloride that I assume is toxic to the plant/mico-organisms. The direction I think we are going in to use citric acid and make a calcium citrate. The end material would be about 15% calcium, approx. 1 lb. of calcium per gallon.

I thought a liquid calcium would be easy for learge growers to use who are already on a tea program. I am shooting to have this material cost the grower $3.50/gallon delivered to his farm.

I would appreciate any feedback from the group to let me know if I am wasting my time or if I am actually on to something.

Thanks,
Jeff

What about adding ground Oyster Shell meal? That
seems like it would be an organic form.

And what about adding liquid salt based minerals such
as potassium sulfate. Does being solubilized in water
change the way it will effect organisms?

I dont have an actual compost pile cause my farm is
indoors but I do have a worm composting bin. Can I
add my mineral supplements to the worm bin?
