Regarding the countability of Banacle Geese, in the United Kingdom (from
where I hail) they are a common wintering species, but only in restricted
areas. There is also a small feral, free-flying population scattered
throughout the country. Thus, individual or small groups of birds turning
up outside of the traditional wintering areas are generally considered
not countable.
More locally, a pair of Chinese Geese (definitely not countable) turned
up at the pond in Duke Gardens a couple of weeks ago. They behave very
aggressively towards the resident Canada Geese. I don't think that
behaviour or lack of tameness is a very good criteria for determining the
origin of any unusual wildfowl.
