Re: use statistics

     Hello Michelle,

I just redesigned our researcher agreement forms trying to keep the
things we keep statistics about consistent since we have nice stats
for about ten years now. One thing I discovered looking over people's
forms from the past ten years is that no one ever admits to being a
member of the general public. Never use that as a category. We used
to ask the researcher to check one:

     JNEM Staff (that's internal)
     Other National Park Service Staff
     Government
     Cultural Institution
     Academic Institution
     General Public
     Other

     and Check one

     Official JNEM Business
     School paper
     Thesis/Dissertation
     Journal Article
     Book
     Personal Use
     Other

and I got rid of the first category. It was too confusing. As I
said, people never considered themselves the general public, they
didn't understand what was meant by cultural and academic institutions
and most people just checked other. So I kept the second category and
I'm going to just assign people to one of the first when I do the
stats at the end of the year. They all have to fill out home and work
addresses so it's usually pretty obvious. Well, that's the plan for
the moment, anyway. Plus I added "business use" to the second
     category.

Then I used the back to make a much larger "contact record" than our
previous form had. I've found there are so many ways of getting in
contact now I really had to expand it. Then the bottom half of that
page is space for what they saw and some blank space for notes.

I can send you the researcher form if you want to see it but it is too
big to attach to go to the list...
