Salary, compensation, relocation

This has been an interesting thread as we are currently composing an advert
to attract potential candidates. NO positions at this point but we want to
collect resumes from people who might be interested in our consulting work.

Eons reather than years ago an unemployment counselor back in Texas advised
that when negotiating with a potential employer that one should use the term
"total compensation" rather than salary when asked and that one should
deflect any question about salary until a number is expressed by the
interviewer. Its like a game of poker.

What is total compensation, you ask? Well it is comprised of your salary,
benefits and anything else that you can attach a monetary value to. So does
your employer provide free parking or subsidize public transportation? Does
your employer have a subsidized cafeteria. Do they provide medical, dental,
life and AD&D insurance? do they provide discounts on purchases? Do they
provide you with access to a gym etc.
All of the above and more have a dollar value attached to them. If employed
by a university what tuition discounts are provided. Well you get the
picture.

If offered a position and the salary is agreeable ask for the various benefit
costs such as insurance, 401k etc. compare line by line with your current
organization.

Well enough for now
