Join the Microsoft Information Services team -- it's an exciting environment
where, every day, you'll push the limits with the use of innovative
technology. As Knowledge Asset Manager, you'll enable global access to
authoritative information about Microsoft and our knowledge assets (both
virtual and physical content and data). You'll manage the Microsoft Museum
collections (business documents, artifacts, software products, and
historical data available from across disparate groups in the company),
providing global access to this data and information. This includes
networking with content owners across the company to mine content and
appraise its authority and business value, and providing intellectual
control over the collections and preservation of the content. You'll also
develop access standards and procedures for all Library and Museum
collections (and for meta-information derived from the collection) in
collaboration with Electronic Information Solutions and Knowledge
Architecture Teams.

Responsibilities include: Establishing standards for access to all Microsoft
knowledge assets (virtual and physical collections) for maximum business use
of information; managing all outsourced tasks involved in processing the
collections.  Appraising the business value of content for Museum
collection, ensuring that these priorities are in line with strategy of
corporate memory projects.  This requires in-depth understanding of MS
organization and culture, and the potential future uses of this information.
Developing procedures for all aspects of Museum collection management,
including access, preservation, security, processing, circulation, and
storage.  Participating in the development of tools that provide seamless
access to Museum and Library collections.  Interfacing with Knowledge
Architecture teams on thesaurus construction and authorities for the
cataloging of this content and assisting in the identification of future
directions and policies for the cataloging.  Partnering with Museum
Research, Museum Collections Outreach, and Museum Programs to drive Museum
collections and prioritize Museum programs and initiatives.

Qualifications: 3-5 years of work-related experience; Master's Degree in
Library Science or Archival Studies (with concentration in Archives
Management and/or Special Media Preservation preferred) . Three years of
project management experience required; excellent written and verbal
communication skills required; knowledge of advanced archival principles
required; knowledge of Microsoft corporate history, culture, and internal
contacts preferred, as is a strong knowledge of internal Microsoft
information sources; ability to manage multiple projects at once is
required. Detailed understanding of cataloging and classification (MARC,
AACR2, XML) required; knowledge of electronic document and information
management technologies and standards preferred; experience with media
preservation and database design preferred.
