Re: Fumigation with phostoxin

An aluminum (aluminium) phosphide fact sheet can be found at
http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu. Its Chemical Abstracts Registry Number (rather
like a unique SSN for compound or chemical substance) is 20859-73-8. You
might like to check Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) on other sites, but
I suspect they will all say about the same. Use properly for the intended
purpose of killing pests, and with proper ventilation precautions. It was
registered in 1978, and comes in various formulations. It is clear that this
material should NOT come in contact with moisture of any form, or alkalis,
as phosphine gas, which can be nasty, is formed. The Cornell site includes
handling procedures, etc.
