AIIM Standards Program

This year's Standards meetings at the AIIM conference in New York introduced
several new initiatives of potentially great interest to Archivists and
Records Managers. Among these are an update of the AIIM Glossary to include
terms related to enterprise content management, data warehousing, knowledge
management, and e-commerce, and a new focus group organized to develop
standards and recommended practices for digital preservation (announced
prior to the conference on this listserve). The initial meeting for the
focus group was well attended, several major issues were recognized, and
task forces were created to begin various aspects of the issues.

Another activity of the standards program was an informative training
session on the new AIIM Recommended Practice - "Implementation Guidelines
and Standards Associated with Web-Based Document Management Technologies."
This new publication "presents a set of procedures and activities, which
should be considered and/or performed during implementation of the selected
inter/intranet document management based technologies. This document will
provide user level information outlining specific recommended activities to
be completed through the various project phases typically performed when
implementing these technologies."

Visit the new AIIM Standards Portal at http://standards.aiim.org for more
information on standards activities and, while you are there, download your
free .pdf copy of the new Implementation Guidelines ARP!
