Re: organization names

Debra:

If you have any idea in what state the organization (or its local chapter)
was located, you might try that state's Secretary of State. California's
SOS/CA State Archives houses articles of incorporation encompassing
business, fraternal and religious-affiliate organizations spanning most of
the state's modern history (circa 1850 - 1960s); SOS has a corporations
office which separately maintains the "active" corporate filings between the
mid-1960s and the present.

I personally hold within my own small Californiana library at home a 1905
San Francisco "Blue Book" of society and personal listings -- sort of a
blue-blood "who's who" -- which includes not only the social and fraternal
clubs, but also who were registered members for the year 1904-1905, and
their home addresses. Very handy sometimes. I would suspect that special
collections libraries might well hold similar directories for larger cities
in their collections.
