Re: scanning fees

We did an experiment in scanning some images for a patron. They were
for publication, which meant the standards were higher than for
regular use. However, we found in attempting to create a scan that
was attractive and useful (without moiré patterns, color correct,
etc.) it was much more labor intensive for staff than photo
ordering/reproducing. The initial scans took much longer than
anticipated, then some had to be rescanned, again taking staff time
away from other projects. Also, depending on the size of the images
(especially tiffs) they may be too large for some email programs to
handle.

My two cents worth!
