Re: The 90s are over



My thoughts when I read your message were that parents had the same sort
of fears--and not unjustified fears--in the 1950s and 60s during the
height of the cold war.  I remember as a child having a great anxiety that
nuclear war would break out any day.  But we are here, and have survived,
and will almost certainly continue to do so.  But that doesn't mean that
their, and your, fears weren't realistic.  Now the Secretary of Defense is
making noises about the possibility of nuclear warfare against the
perpetrators of this horror.  That raises fear in my heart.  But the
governments of the world have always had choices about whether to be
civilized in their response to threats or not.  We can only hope that they
will continue to make decisions that will not bring us to the brink of
world holocaust.
