Re: Archivist documentation of disaster



NPR had a segment this morning about the AFC project documenting the WTC
bombings and they played some audio tapes from the Pearl Harbor bombing.  It
was a very interesting comparison of words used then and now.  They also
talked about the time frame before humor was used.

Actually, if it's the same story I heard, it was someone from the American
Folklife Center who when out in the street to get reactions from people
right after Pearl Harbor.  The Folklife Center is encouraging folklorists
and others to go out and record people's reactions to the Sept. 11 events.
 One interesting snippet has a linguist, I think, talking about words
people are using to describe events.
