Re: Donating to Archives

A state historical society or state library/archives (almost every state has one or the other or both) can probably help anyone looking to place materials in a museum or archives.  The American Association of Museums (Washington DC) and the American Association for State and Local History (Nashville) are both national support organtizations which could probably also help.

Subject: Donating to Archives

Hello Listeros,
I was contacted by a woman who is writing a story for the Wall Street Journal about donating personal and business records to cultural institutions. She is curious how people can go about finding a repository for their items. I mentioned to her that institutions are always concerned with space and and donations are usually based on the scope of their collections.  Does anyone have any other ideas to share concerning this issue or any helpful resources they can suggest?

Thanks!
