summer internship at Yale University



The Manuscripts and Archives Department of the Yale University Library invites
applications for its 2002 summer internship program. The program is designed to
provide a current graduate student planning a career in the archives profession
with an opportunity to obtain practical experience in appraisal, arrangement,
description, preservation, and other aspects of archival work.

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Head of Arrangement and
Description and the Internship Committee, appraise, arrange, and describe two
collections: the Robert Kaplan papers, which include materials relating to John
L. Lewis, the United Mine Workers? Welfare and Retirement Fund, and Josephine
Roche; and the Kellogg-Dickie papers, which include materials documenting the
American relief work during World War I of Vernon Lyman Kellogg and Charlotte
Hoffmann Kellogg.  Perform other duties as assigned and participate in staff
and working group meetings.

Length: 10 weeks @ 37.5 hours/week, during the months May-August.

Requirements: Intern must be enrolled in an advanced degree program in archival
administration, library and information studies, or related fields. Archives
course work at the advanced degree level. Excellent oral and written
communications skills and ability to work in a team setting.

Preferred: Undergraduate and/or graduate courses in American history and
culture.

Stipend: $3500 (The internship does not include benefits or travel/moving
expenses.)

Application procedure: Applicants should submit a letter describing their
interest in the internship and the archival profession, a resume, a list of
courses completed or underway in the advanced degree program, and the names and
