Employment Opportunity

The Manuscripts and Archives Division of the Virginia Historical Society has an opening for a full-time Business History Archivist.  This position involves the acquisition, processing, description, and maintenance of the Society?s business and institutional archival collections.  The incumbent will be heavily involved in the planning and development of the new Center for Virginia Business History at the Virginia Historical Society.  The first assignment will focus on the appraisal and arrangement of the Reynolds Metals Company corporate archives, the development of an in-house history of that corporation, and the management of a Reynolds Metals Company oral history project undertaken by an outside vendor.

Qualifications: M.A. degree in history, the humanities, or the social sciences, or an M.L.S. from an accredited library school with concentration in archival studies; minimum of three years? experience in a manuscripts repository or as a records manager; familiarity with the creation of USMARC descriptive cataloging records; additional computer literacy, including word processing and online searching; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to lift and carry boxes weighing 40 lbs.  Preferred:  background in business or economic history; supervisory, reference, and/or donor relations experience.

Compensation: Minimum annual salary $28,000, plus generous benefits package.
