Re: Mold

While I am completely lost on the issue of algorithm (Al Gore-isms? maybe I
shouldn't start that one), anyone wanting to use those calculations will
need data. Since others helpfully directed me in the past, I'll suggest to
those without them tbe Hobo dataloggers from Onset Computer Corp, which have
the enormous benefit of being dirt cheap, compared to other brands I
investigated.

The loggers were $95 (US), with another $95 for the software, which you only
need to buy once. Not knowing a heck of a lot about it, I can't tell you
how well they compare for accuracy, but you have _some_ data this way.
Since Bridgette will need proof for the suits that the room is behaving as
she thinks, numbers will probably be needed. I bought two of the loggers
(the H8-004 models), one for each of my storage rooms, and I have them set
to 12 minute intervals, so I get about 2 weeks worth of data per deployment.

Incidentally, one of the other things I've done, after converting the Hobo
data to Excel, is download climate data for the day generally. I found a
website ( http://205.156.54.206/er/box/clstns.htm ) with unofficial climate
data for the Northeastern US. While it isn't official data, I don't much
care - it gives me an idea of temp, humidity, precipitation for the world
outside, which will tell me how my internal readings compare with what was
going on outside. At least this way I have some explanation for changes in
my readings.

It ain't perfect, but..

Yes, there is a very handy tool called the Preservation Calculator that is
based on an algorithm that I can't explain. The link to this and some
interesting information is www.rit.edu/~661www/ to the Image Permanence
Institute. On the PresCalc you can enter the temperature and the RH to get
the number of days to mold germination.
