Re: Why do you need space... everything is online now...



Pardon the "Duh" response, but has the committee been invited in to see the
current space?  If you've made these acquisitions, there must be a few
"bursting seams" you can show them.  Heck, you could create some just to
prove your point, though I'm not suggesting that (wink wink).  Make them
come in, show them how crowded things are, then explain to them that all
that "internet stuff" only covers the surface of quality research.  Good 'ol
books are still needed, & still take up space, unless they want students to
do all their research on Brittanica.com.

I'd also suggest (not that you don't already know it) that you're in the
middle of one of those fun political/darwinist fights for survival.
Everybody on the campus has the same argument you have, and people will find
the darndest ways of fighting for their piece of the pie, short of actual
bribery.  You're likely to have to pull out all the stops to prove your
value and contributions to the school, and you may want to prepare for a
dirty fight.  Good luck.
