Volunteer Profile: Eric Walstad

Eric is a member of our technology team, which develops free software to power the EcoAccess web site. Among many other contributions of his time and talent, he helped set up our Internet relay chat channel so that our developers from around the world can communicate in real-time weekly "virtual meetings".

He writes:

I was very excited when I first heard of EcoAccess and jumped at the chance to volunteer my time. Working with the EcoAccess Technology team allows me to help with an environmental cause, work with, and learn from, a talented group of developers from all over the world and contribute to an Open Source software project. These are all important issues to me and what make my EcoAccess experience so rewarding.

My software development work started when I was completing the Environmental Studies and Planning program at Sonoma State University in California. I started an internship with a local company that developed energy analysis software. I stayed with that company even after graduating and learned a lot about both programming and the "real" world of energy conservation. Now I work with energy service companies and energy utilities, building software applications that ultimately help reduce the amount of energy and power we use.
