Engine
Overhaul to New Limits: When
asked, why are you being so meticulous about restoring this 1974 Piper into
the best flying condition possible? It’s easiest just show this picture and
leave it at that. You
see, Quinn thinks that this is his plane. Sort of like a big toy that dad
drags around the sky. My wife would not allow our son to fly unless the
aircraft was in best shape possible. We completed all the exterior and
interior work, avionics, and flew the plane for about a year, with regular
oil changes every 50 hours. This PA28-151 was STC’d to a Lycoming 0360 A4A,
180 hp engine. I monitored the engine, but felt that it was time to beg some
funds and dip into savings for a complete overhaul to new limits, and
refurbish all components, firewall forward, and I’m glad that I did. |

The
Engine and all things that attach to it, run and monitor it, feed it with
fluids and keep it securely fastened to the airframe were brought to like new
condition. There
is nothing like Mr. Lycoming telling you IT”S TIME. I went with my evaluation
before the big moment of silence at 3000 feet and I’m glad I did. |

A busted piston ring here is just part of the story. My highest compliments to JB Aircraft Engine Services
