Just for the record, today (18 January 2002) I banded a
raspberry-colored Purple Finch at Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont
Natural History near York SC.
This is the first "adult" male PUFI seen here since 13 March 2000.
There have been precious few PUFI at all the past two winters, and
they've all been brown (either females or "young" males).
I would glady buy more sunflower seeds if the finch invasion would occur. :-)
Happy Birding,
BILL
