RE: Ants in the bluebird box (Ric Carter)

I hope they'd just send it to the list, I'd love to hear any info or advice
on that topic too.

One thing you might try is sprinkling some cedar dust or sage powder in the
box after you clean it out, they usually work well at deterring insects. Or
make a tea of pine needles and spray the inside of the box with that.

Infestation of ants and other insects is something we think about with
survival shelters. If you build one that you're going to keep up for more
than a few days you want to spray it down with the pine needle tea or smudge
the inside heavily with cedar or sage smoke. Also very popular is dowsing
the entire shelter with the original listerine. Not the colored flavored
type, the old brown colored original listerine only. This keeps ticks and a
ton of other insects out of them. Some of my friends even put the listerine
in a spray bottle and use that as an insect repellant, swearing by it they
won't use anything else. These things may be worth trying with your nest
boxes too?
