Re: Hello all

In reply to Bruno's post, I believe he is approaching birding from the
wrong perspective. While photographing common birds is ok as
photography, if you want to learn the birds you have to take a different
approach.
First, get the appropriate tools- a good traditional Field Guide, There
are now lots of them out there-Peterson-East, Sibley-East, etc. and a
decent pair of binoculars.
Second, get to know the common birds by adopting a local park, refuge,
or any area that is walkable and has varied habitat-field, woods, lake,
etc and birdwatch that area for a whole year or two. So that you get to
know the common birds well and which birds are around at which season.
Third, Read and reread the introductory parts of the field guide which
explains the topography of a bird.
Once you get the feel for your local birds. Travel to other areas nearby
and see what is there.
Also joining the Carolina Bird Club would help.
