Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park which is on US highway 17 about 10 miles south of the
intersection of US 17 and US 526.  It is led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.  A

July 26, 2003

55 species were seen and/or heard on a very wet day.  The most interesting
were; 20 Anhingas, 8 immature Yellow-crowned Night Herons, 60 White Ibis, 1
Glossy Ibis, 30 Wood Storks, 2 Solitary Sandpipers, 8 Spotted Sandpipers, 2
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 1 Barred Owl, 8 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 3
White-eyed Vireos, 8 Red-eyed Vireos, 3 Pine Warblers, 2 Summer tanagers, 3
Blue Grosbeaks, 4 Indigo Buntings, and 3 Painted Buntings.

July 30, 2003

52 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
3 Wood Storks, 1 Mississippi Kite, 2 Ospreys, 4 Red-shouldered Hawks, 2
Red-tailed Hawks, 1 Belted Kingfisher, 1 Wood Thrush, 1 Northern Parula
Warbler, 1 Pine Warbler, 1 Prothonotary Warbler, 2 Summer Tanagers, 2 Blue
Grosbeaks, 3 Indigo Buntings, and 7 Painted Buntings.
