Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston County's
Caw Caw park in Ravenel, SC about 10 miles south of the intersection of US
17 and US 526.  It is led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.  A small fee is

August 2, 2003

50 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were; 1 Least
Bittern, 5 Wood Storks, 5 Mississippi Kites, 3 Red-shouldered Hawks, 3
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 25 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 10
Eastern Bluebirds, 10 White-eyed Vireos, 10 Red-eyed Vireos, 5 Parula
Warblers, 2 Yellow-throated Warblers, 1 Pine Warbler, 1 Worm-eating Warbler,
6 Summer Tanagers, 2 Blue Grosbeaks, 3 Indigo Buntings, and 20 Painted
Buntings.

August 6, 2003

49 species were seen and/or heard on a warm cloudy day when birds were hard
to find.  The most interesting were;  2 Yellow-crowned Night Herons, 3
Mississippi kites, 1 Swallow-tailed Kite, 7 Dunlins, 2 Yellow-billed Cuckoo,
1 Belted Kingfisher, 1 Northern Parula Warbler, 1 Summer Tanager, 1 Blue
Grosbeak, 15 Indigo Buntings, and 3 Painted Buntings.
