Jeff, Mike, Shay; Ivan, Giz

Jeff: Realtor, husband, gardener -- "We're everyday people just like everybody else. People need to know we're out there trying to make a living and working alongside them"; and Mike: Chemist, husband, musician -- "We'd like for people to lose some of their fear about what being gay is."

Ivan: Entrepreneur, community volunteer, Greensboro native. "When asked to be apart of this project, I immediately thought there was no way I could have my face plastered on a billboard. But through some talks with friends and family, I changed my mind.  I have been out to my family and friends for 8 years now and I realize that I am extremely fortunate to have the unconditional love and support from these people and the only way to help more people achieve an understanding and acceptance of gays and lesbians in our community, was through more people standing up and identifying themselves as such.

"I also felt like as a gay male 'of color' that I also have a responsibility to help younger 'of color' gay and lesbians that might be struggling with their sexuality, understand that it’s okay and that there are others out there like themselves. Let’s hope that from this project and all other future projects not only will we help achieve a greater level of support and tolerance from the larger Greensboro community, but also help us as a LGBT community, realize the diversity within our own community. Lastly, I hope this project will help the entire community see the “many faces” and backgrounds of the gay and lesbian community. Thanks, TEA for asking me to be a part of such a very groundbreaking and noteworthy project."

Giz: Compact, loud, gay. "To be honest, because I can, I have the full support of my friends, my employer, my entire support network. Not everyone has this luxury, so I figure since I do, I have a responsibility to do what I can to support the GLBT community. I have called the Triad my home since 1985 when I arrived at Wake Forest University as a freshman.  I enjoy all the usual activities, movies, music, books, and exercise, and try to be involved in my community. I am inspired by the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
