Fungi that work in soil are not the same fungi that inhabit grains as far a=
s I can tell. What good does it do to grow fungi associated with oat or ba=
rley or any other type of grain in your tea? (Elaine and others suggested a=
dding oat flour to the compost.) What happens to these fungi when applied =
in your soil or on your plant? Fungi are associated with decomposition and=
can break down higher order compunds unavailable to bacteria.
Getting the flour wet. From what I can tell, most fungi-type organisms tha=
t grow under water are molds. When oat flour is applied to compost and kep=
t wet, does it sprout molds which are then available to be eaten by any fun=
gi in the compost? What then happens when this is sprayed on a leaf?
Do molds outcompete bacteria for nutrients? Molds are higher order organis=
ms than bacteria and can break down compounds that then become available to=
bacteria.

Subject: Re: [compost_tea] Sulfur
Yes, you could add calcium sulfate, but I prefer calcium nitrate, if you =
need N, or calcium carbonate if you need to chew up some hydrogen ions, or =
eggshells (calcium carbonate with protein), or calcium hydroxide, if you ne=
ed to mess more with the chemistry of hydrogen.
But please make sure to not add more than 100 pounds of any of these salt=
s per 900 pounds of compost (think of it as a 1:10 dilution if you need to)=
.
More than that and you get too many things dying from the salt effect. =
