Re: Records for New Building

Be sure you end up with "as built" drawings, not just the proposed design,
especially for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, and
electrical. Your physical plant people will want a copy of all of the above
as built drawings so they know where everything is and how things really are
connected.

Not only do you want to receive the "as-built" plans which are crucial as
the building ages and items are added (new cabling, water pipes etc) or
subtracted, BUT you might want to obtain the a copy of the electronic file
itself. That will make Building Ops life easier and you will be able to
produce hard copy prints more easily than using the mylar.

Also you might want to obtain a set of the photographs taken during the
building's construction. Don't know if this is still done but for years
contractors would hire a photographer to shoot new building construction
from all four sides to document the construction progress, was also
apparently used to justify payments to the contractor. These shots are in
almost all cases dated. Very useful for preservations et al. Unfortunately
don't know if this is still standard practice.
