Advisers
may receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for participating in
the Institute and in regional workshops.
A four-course endorsement plan, put into effect by the N. C.
Department of Public Instruction, and offered in conjunction
with NCSMA and
the UNC-CH School of Journalism and Mass Communication, allows
teachers to train themselves for their journalistic tasks, while
earning their hours of graduate
credit for each course. Courses that may be taken are "Journalism
Education in the Secondary School," which trains advisers
for their tasks with newspapers, yearbooks, magazines and desktop
publishing; "Legal
Issues in Scholastic Journalism"; "Journalistic Writing
and Editing"; and "Desktop Publishing in Scholastic Journalism." Fellowships
are offered to advisers to help them offset course expenses.
Two
courses are offered each summer as two-week, short-term courses.
Two are offered online - one in the fall semester and one in the
spring.
Carolina
Courses Online coordinates these online courses.
