Survey the damage
Ashley Smoad did her homepage during the Fall '97 semester. That was a long time ago in Internet and dog years. Not only has web design progressed since then, but so has Ashley's life. We're going to be updating more than the design. Look over her site so we can take this step-by-step:
|
- Adam? Heh, she dumped that poor guy on his head. Ashley wants to keep the picture and replace Adam with a pic of her latest boyfriend.
- JOMC 53 whupped her ass, so Ashley chickened out and became a Political Science major. We need to remove all references to the Journalism School.
- She wants new links. She hates RedMeat comics now and Adam has gotten much, much better with his HTML. In fact, Adam is now a professional web developer making tons of money, unlike Ashley who'll scrimp and save her way into law school, earning herself an ulcer and high blood pressure on the way to a dreary middle class existance. Oh, wait, that's right: Ashley dumped Adam! Oh well, we'll just replace his link to her new boyfriend's "homepage".
- We need to improve the overall look of the page: new colors, maybe some new images, definately something a little more eye-catching.
- We'll also update her resume.

We're going to attack her page through two different methods, both of which you should be familiar with: the easy way using an HTML or text editor like Netscape's Composer or BBEdit and the hard way through a telnet session with the server. Composer is free and should come with your copy of Netscape. The text editor you use depends on your platform: Mac users can use BBEdit or Simpletext and PC users can use Wordpad or Notepad.
