Hi Elaine -

It has already been stated that PC migrates.

Soil biology under and around trees
is not the lynchpin, because PC migrates
from surrounding tree cover.

Tree cover extends from the East Coast
to the Prairie States.

Again, see Ron Prokopy's work at UMass
for ecological behavior of RC. See Stuart
Hill's work at EAP in Canada.

ATTRA has thoroughly discussed organic orcharding
in relation to nemesis pests in relation to
geographical location.

In the 1980s, a famous bio-organic orchardist in
Missouri offered a $100 reward to anybody who could
show they are raising a successful organic orchard
of at least 100 trees anywhere in the Eastern U.S.
It was never claimed. He finally moved to
California to be organic.

PC is the arch nemesis of organic orchards,
and the reason why "low-spray" orcharding is
so commonly practiced in the East.

Well, now growers have Surround WP as a
biorational control product and it
is a new ballgame.

Organic orhcarding is largely a geocentric
phenomena when it comes to the presence or
absence of plum curculio. It is absent in
the West.

Beauvaria bassiana was suggested by ATTRA
years ago. But it still won't solve the
migrating bugs issue. Likewise, even if you
get 90% control through good soil management
and cultural practices, you can still endure
a 50% crop loss.

Nevertheless, I'm very curious to see what
can result through innovative CT brewing
that adds specific microbial antagonists and
entomopathogenic fungi. We heard at one CT
workshop that Serenade can be brewed up to
greater quantities in CT brewers.

CT's are important for disease control in
orchards; relative to CT quality and NOP
regulations.
