Selkies

Selkies are a mysterious race of water-breathers that live beneath the waves in the Great Pelagic Ocean. Despite popular misconception, selkies are bipeds and lack the piscine tails of merfolk. Selkies, instead, have long, slender toes and fingers with delicate webbing between them that they use to move through the water with ease. Selkies are a peaceful race and often come ashore to barter and trade with the `drylanders´ in Lamman and elsewhere. The vast majority of selkies, however, never set foot ashore and are content to spend their entire lives in the warm ocean waters. Many legends surround the origin of the selkies, but most sages and scholars agree that the selkies are the survivors of the city-state Atlantis, which centuries ago sunk to the bottom of the sea. Selkies are a cultured and philosophical people and their society deeply appreciative of beauty and delight in theatre, music, and the arts.
