While they are writing publications, authors identify one or more experts who can serve as reviewers. When a publication is ready for review, the publisher contacts these experts to find one who is willing to read the publication for technical accuracy.
Typically, reviewers are retired professors or government workers with an interest in the subject area.
The publisher e-mails a draft to the reviewer, and then makes sure to get the comments back.
For very simple publications, a publisher may decide that a review is not necessary. For very complex publications, a publisher may decide that more than one reviewer is needed.
