The North Carolina Scholastic Media Association (NCSMA) is a statewide
organization that promotes excellence in scholastic journalism and
encourages respect for freedom of the press.
NCSMA also promotes professional growth of journalism
teachers and speaks for scholastic media in matters of curriculum and
that affect journalism education in North Carolina.
NCSMA serves scholastic journalism and works
for its advancement. It is an arm of the School of Journalism and Mass
Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The organization also mails members a newsletter
throughout the school year.
NCSMA offers members special services, including
a four-day summer Institute, fall regional workshops,
critiques and yearly contests for individuals and publications.
