Roy Booker, Quad-City Times

Roy Booker

I have been the librarian at the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa, for ten years. In that time, there have been many changes.

My first position at the Times was as a court records clerk collecting arrest reports and dispositions. From that moment on, I was hooked. I have served in a variety of roles since then, collecting and compiling information as an obituary reporter and later as a library clerk.

It's an exciting and challenging time to be a librarian. Technology has grown by leaps and bounds including digitized microfilm, intranets and Web-based merchandising. Joining the News Division has opened doors to the vast knowledge and experience of many great librarians in the industry. Each day is a chance to learn something new and hopefully contribute something along the way.

The Mississippi River, which has literally been at our doorstep at times, has produced a rich history in our bi-state region. The Quad-City Times will celebrate its 150th anniversary soon. I look forward to working with our staff to meet the challenges of the future and treasuring our past.

My interests include trivia, Civil War history, genealogy, old courthouses and pioneer cemeteries.
