U.S. NAVY SHIPS -- Listed by Hull Number

"SP" #s and "ID" #s -- World War I Era Acquired Vessels without Numbers (listed alphabetically by name)

Though the great majority of ships and craft acquired by the Navy during 1917-1919 were assigned numbers in the "SP" and "ID" series, a large minority had no number assigned during their service. Some of these received "ID" numbers later, and are therefore included in the pages covering numbered vessels, but well over two hundred never had a number. These are listed alphabetically on this page.

This page covers vessels acquired for Navy service during 1917-1919 that did not receive numbers in the "SP" and "ID" number series.

See the list below to locate photographs of individual World War I era acquired ships and craft without numbers in the "SP" and "ID" number series.

For links to lists of ships and craft that received "SP" and "ID" series numbers, see:

  • "SP" #s and "ID" #s -- World War I Era Patrol Vessels and other Acquired Ships and Craft.

If the World War I era acquired vessel you want does not have an active link on this page, or the other pages of the "SP" and "ID" series, and the statement "no image available" is lacking, contact the Photographic Section concerning other research options.
